Born 1957 Manila. Lives in Berlin and Manila.
Maria Cruz began her art education in the Philippines. Later, she moved to Sydney, Australia, where she studied at the Sydney College of the Arts, University of Sydney, and finally, at the Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf, Germany.
Maria Cruz has extensive experience in teaching Visual Arts and has taught at both the Sydney College of the Arts, The University of Sydney, and the University of Western Sydney.”
Her first solo exhibition was held at Artspace in Sydney in 1986. She has been awarded several competitive grants by the Visual Arts/Crafts Board of the Australia Council for the Arts. In 2000-01, she received an overseas Fellowship Residency at P.S.1 New York (MoMA).
