Vermont Coronel Jr.’s latest solo exhibiton, Cover Up, immerses us in the layered realities of Metro Manila’s urban neighborhoods. As Coronel traverses his everyday routes, walking or biking through familiar streets, he keenly captures the ongoing transformations that influence the urban landscape, whether by human intervention, nature’s subtle encroachments, or the inevitable passage of time.
In Cover Up, Coronel invites viewers to recognize the urban scenery not as passive backdrops, but as active, shifting spaces where every alteration, deliberate or incidental, uncovers new narratives and covers older ones. Through his lens, the city itself becomes a canvas, perpetually influenced, layered, and transformed by an ongoing interplay of cover-ups, each telling its own story.
