Stay, Stay the same (cause everything else will change)
I’ve always seen Clarence Chun’s works as an extension of himself, though when asked, he says the contrary. When he speaks about the pieces, his descriptions are as fragmented and yet fully formed as the work itself. Coherent, yet not cohesive. Sometimes art is like that. It leaves you with an experience or feeling: awe, shock, stunned, dumbfounded.
Sometimes you can’t find the words for what builds up inside you. Even if you cannot communicate it cohesively, you can still feel it coherently.
Stay, Stay the Same (cause everything else will change) brings together three types of entities living in our studio: paintings covering the walls, drawings covering the desks, and sculptures filling the shelves. There is, in a sense, no space left. Each carries something of him: meticulousness in paintings, wit in sculptures, and sincerity in drawings. They are different manifestations of the same person, each one emerging slightly differently.
