Through the words of Mary Oliver— “Attention is the beginning of devotion.”
In these series of paintings by Janis Reyes and Josiah Celicia, the eye and hand act as both the door and mediator between worlds. Painting becomes a way of reflecting on and translating the multiplicity and layers of meaning embedded in ordinary life, and an act of returning home to both the inner and outer landscapes we tenderly inhabit.
The world, like refracted light, fragments into shifting viewpoints.
