The rule of thirds: Storytellers have used it, orators have exploited it, photographers have sworn by it, musicians have harmonized melodies through it, and needless to say, religions have built their dogmas around it. Even nature itself cannot escape the rigidity of the triangle—just look around and see how almost everything is connected by those three dots. Mountains, pyramids, faces, social structures, and instant coffee mixes. There are three sides to every story: yours, mine, and the art that tries to convey it, albeit unreliably, and sometimes—through either comedy or tragedy, or the sacred and the profane.

Is it also possible that there are three sides, three faces, reflected in any piece of art? That there is room for viewing it while carefully administering the proposition of thirds: the setup, the confrontation, and the denouement? Or perhaps to regard the way we look at art the same way we look at perspective—that there are three vanishing points, seamlessly connected in order to create the illusion? Or what about if we straddle the narratives of divinity through suspension of disbelief, and see the artist as one content creator with three social media handles? Or even in clinical terms, an individual with three personalities?
