In precolonial Bisayan myth, a hunter from the Skyworld accidentally pierces a hole through the floor. To his surprise, a foreign earth lies beneath his perfect world of luxurious treasures. He was delighted by the luscious trees and glistening springs that he called his people to descend that very hole and live in this world we now call home.
And so the world was discovered through a hole in the sky. A creation story where the thing created is not the world, but a feeling for the world. The hole frames the raw and unconquerable landscapes the Skypeople might have seen as they landed on earth.
