The inaugural exhibition presents artists from the Philippines that The Drawing Room has been working with through its fourteen years in the industry. Titled “Short Memory”, the show gathers new pieces or major works that best resonate and represent the fifteen artists’ practices. The artists are: Alfredo and Isabel Aquilizan, Vermont Coronell II, Roderico Jose Daroy, Kawayan De Guia, Kiko Escora, Roberto Feleo, Alvin Gregorio, Riel Hilario, Troy Ignacio, Nikulas Lebajo, Jose Legaspi, Diokno Pasilan, Mark Salvatus, Lirio Salvador and Trek Valdizno.
This event represents the artists’ inquiries into aesthetic formats and contemporary practices that occur in the mingling of cosmopolitan and arcane cultures in Manila. The artists’ critical and experientially-grounded methods portray a specific Philippines operating on a chaotic syntax between private and public spaces. “Short Memory” convenes assemblage vis-à-vis painting, sculptural traditions infused with contemporary narratives and personal imagery underlying in themes of the city.
