ABOUT THE ART FAIR

The Drawing Room will be presenting a new project by Miguel AQUILIZAN in Booth Y02 of Art Taipei.

Atrophy

Taxidermy is a skill and craft driven by pervasive guilt.  The best examples of the craft are those that regain some of the animal’s power, grace and gravitas prior to its death by mounting its skin on an abstract sub-form, based on the shape of its musculature. Utilising commercial animal skin offcuts, this series of works returns the excess of the industrial process to its original form. Instead of the original crown or branch of antlers, goblets and chalices are mounted above their heads – subtly referencing the Christian tradition of the Eucharist. Offsetting this air of solemnity, the work also incorporates more innocent materials such as pompoms, coloured beads and foam.
